Candy Starburst
Why does chewing Starburst candy work?

I get the urge to eat this candy because it relieves pain in my face and jaw. Anyone else had this weird phenomenon??

It’s not the candy that is working, but the process of chewing.

When people have braces, for example, they are often given a “bite wafer” which is a soft plastic wedge, to bite on. The action of biting increases blood flow to the jaw and helps to relieve pain. In chewing your Starburst you are accomplishing a similar thing.

Remember that candy with sugar will harm your teeth, causing decay if you don’t brush and floss regularly.

If you have pain in your face and jaw on a regular basis, you should mention it to your dentist. It is not normal, and may be a result of TMJ or another dental problem.
